The trip boat Look Ahead II mentioned in the report used to be operated out of Paignton Harbour by one of the Bewleys in the early 1970's. She was built in North Devon by either Blackmore's of Bideford, or Hinks of Appledore.

I can remember seeing the Methane sisters laid up there in the late 1980's.

P&O Southern Ferries 'Eagle' was laid up there for a while in the mid 70s. we had a full compliment of engine room and deck staff with a few stewards. We had a phone line from the western side of the river to the ship and if anyone ashore wanted to come on board they could phone and someone would take a lifeboat across to pick them up. Huge parties on board on a weekly basis, trips to Truro in one of the bigger lifeboats at the weekends. We tried out an early lube oil moisture tester after discovering water in one of the sumps due to a leaking tank top. One of the tugs that took us up the river was a steam recip.

I think that is the King Harry ferry crossing.
