May and her government absolute shambles

May and her government have yet again royally F****d up with getting the help to the British dependencies in the Caribbean, the idiots had a weeks notice that a big one was on its way, and as usual they sat on there hands doing foxtrot alpha until it was too late.

May has got to go, utter shambles!

I'm not sure that is fair. Better, of course, would be to have the wherewithal on site as seemingly did the French and US admins (but who had the advantage of being much closer).

For the UK to have dispatched assistance by sea such that it would have had to pass through/experience the thick of the weather would not have been fabulously clever.

These, we are told, are hundred year events. Only the profligate would maintain specific resources ready for the 100 year event. They have to be marshalled from what is generally available . Contingency.

The saying is "Cometh the hour cometh the man" not "When the hour comes the man will be exhausted by the waiting".

I tend to think that a lot of the attacks about not being ready is unfair.
Mounts Bay is on site and actively helping. Aircraft on the way or by now there if they can find anywhere to land.
The comments about France and the Netherlands being there immediately is not correct. They have military based on their islands. As we know UK does not.
Also I don't think anyone could have foreseen the devastation.

Totally unfair comment. The British government maintains a presence in the caribbean with a ship on station as guard ship for anti-drug patrols and disaster relief just such as this. The "Bay" Class RFA is eminently suitable for such tasking and has a proven track record within the constraints of government spending.

I am reminded of a part verse of a song

"Winston Churchill sold us all a pup,
With all his might and main,
When it begins to rain,
He hasn't got the power to push it up."

We have people on the ground now, and they will work to assist, but a Hurricane is a force beyond resistance.

My thoughts are with the people there.

To me T May is trying to be another Maggie Thatcher instead she is acting like the 2 drips we got rid of ie: Cameron and his side kick. The lady is not for turning then the MPs voted her out --watch your back TM, your days are numbered!!!!

An interesting observation.

One reality about Europe’s current political leadership is summarised here:

Macron, the newly elected French president, has no children.

German chancellor Angela Merkel has no children.

British prime minister Theresa May has no children.

Italian prime minister Paolo Gentiloni has no children.

Holland’s Mark Rutte, Sweden’s Stefan Löfven, Luxembourg's Xavier Bettel, Scotland’s Nicola Sturgeon all have no children.

Jean-Claude Juncker, president of the European Commission, has no children.

Ironically it would seem that a grossly disproportionate number of the people who make the major decisions about Europe’s future have no direct personal stake in that future.

Not just sterile in thought, then.

Also, the so - called "most powerful" leaders are all skating on very thin, melting political ice.

Merkel, struggling to agree a coalition.
Macron, falling out of favour already with his electorate.
Clunker, facing some awkward questions about his past activities.

Meanwhile, the far right is gaining traction in the Eastern European countries, starting with Austria.

I'm glad I am not young any more.

If there is anybody left after WWIII to fight it.

That's the trouble with life these days.

Worrying about facing the future and worrying about not having a future to face. :bye:
