They used to a favourite at Newton Abbot Raceway, St Austell and others.
Put in a 1275cc engine and minimal roll bars. Light weight and fwd good for drifting on the oval track, and lack of rear body gave good visibility for the driver. If you wonder why they are now rare, that could be the reason. |
Malcolm G .. IN 1960,s i was driving my Mini Van along the Kingston by-pass in London
noticed a black Daimler Dart following me , got as far as Putney Common when found out it was a unmarked Police car and they pulled me over . they said i was speeding [ vans in those days resticted to 40 mph ] when they looked under bonnet they found i had fitted a Mini Cooper S engine from my mates crashed car . Policeman who was passenger was very interested as he done Rally driving but in the end still got a ticket . in all my years driving all sorts of vehicles including motorbikes that was the only ticket .
