The captain I am interested in was Lieutenant John Monk RN, and after his active service ended, he first captained the William Black from 1824-1829, before selling it and buying a Maryport-built brig called The Monk, which his first mate wrecked it in 1837. I am going to post a separate question in an appropriate forum thread as I have the shipbuilder's accounts for the ship, and I'm trying to decipher them.
