It was filmed in places all over the UK and Ireland and Madeira as well as Elstree Studios. I did a bit of online searching for the ship used which was originally the 1887 built Ryelands, later named the Moby Dick and was used in Treasure Island and the TV series The Buccaneers.
Sadly she came to an end in fire at Morecambe in 1972. Given her age definitely a ship with a bit of history.

That shipspotting photo brings back some memories of the 1960's, I remember seeing her in Morecambe and I now live here..........
