- Biography
- I joined Brocklebank's as a 2nd R/O in March 1964. My first two trips were as 2R/O on Matra and then promoted and costed same ship. I took my radar ticket in Greenock in 1965 and become one of the first two Brock's R/O's to man the newly acquired Moss Tankers, in my case the Lucigen (not a great ship). Subsequently I sailed on Cunard cargo ships Alaunia and Samaria for several trips, Mahanada, two long trips on Luxor, Maskeliya, Maturata, Mahseer and the Mahsud. This was my last trip for Brock's in 1969. I then joined P&O and was immediately sent to stand by the final building of a VLCC, Ardvar, and sail on the maiden voyage. Then spent 18 months on Oronsay where I met my Assistant Purser wife and then back to Ardvar. Numerous dock staff stand byes on passenger ships turning round in Southampton. Final P&O voyage was on a very hairy gas tanker called Gambada. We then moved to South Africa in 1974 and I briefly joined Unicorn Shipping and did multiple voyages on Africa Shell and then came ashore and went into the computer industry. After spending many years working in the Middle East I owned two print and copy franchises. NOW RETIRED and living between Canterbury and Hythe in Kent.
