- Biography
- Interested in all things to do with the sea since boyhood. Rejected for an apprenticeship with Shell Tankers due to slight health issue. Missed out on interviews with other companies after catching mumps at age 17. Left school the following year and started learning the ropes on Class VI passenger craft in Torbay in 1969/70. Obtained DTI Boatmans Licence aged 21 in 1973 for Class IV,V, VI and VI(A). (Vessels carrying up to 250 passengers.)1974, I obtained Trinity House Pilotage Exemptions for the Out Ports of Brixham and Dartmouth. September 1974, joined 76 ft auxiliary twin screw ketch newly built for an American owner. Lived overseas before returning home in 1983. Operated my own summer passenger/winter fishing boat for 5 years. After having my own business and working in the food production industry, I finally settled into a career in selling, firstly into industrial markets, and then finally into trade counters, retail outlets, and builders' merchants.
