And a continental instigator.

Malcolm G 22nd September 2022 22:54

Flatholm and Steepholm in the Bristol Channel.
But I don’t know what their international importance is.

Easy....Elvis`s plane didn`t crash there on his way to Germany, thus allowing him another 18 years of making music history.

I suppose I should have known that, but my knowledge is, rather obviously, about his work around Poole harbour, quite near where I am.
But that was later - must try harder..:p

Location for a "Sparkie Point"

This is the current Suffren, arriving at Faslane.

Sparkie2182 23rd September 2022 09:30

"This is the current Suffren, arriving at Faslane"

Correct.

Sparkie2182 23rd September 2022 09:49

"Ca Class"

My information is "Battle".....which isnt correct on inspection.

Ca...... Doesnt seem much more accurate.

I will park this one.....any other offers?

Identify the warship in build.....

Malcolm G 23rd September 2022 10:31

#474 - I believe the location is Newport News yard.
So, of those built there I would say it is USS Enterprise.

Perusing JFS for mid 60s
The 965 bedstead radar leads me to Fleet Radar Pickets.
Four of them, converted later Battle class, known as ‘Battle class AD conversions’.
Agincourt, Aisne, Barrosa, Corunna.

Looking at the location of the island ‘base’ I believe this is one of the new Gerald R Ford class, I will go for John F Kennedy (always admired the man)

I would be happy with that. At the end of the day ( being an ex-rugby player) the referees decision is final (even when he is wrong)!

Our Ned 23rd September 2022 12:32

#462 - nearer ship is one of Aisne, Agincourt, Barrosa or Corunna (probably Agincourt - part of 27 ES 1964-66) and the further ship is a Ca class destroyer (not frigate), more difficult to identify but what's visible of the bridge behind the Battle's "B" turret looks like the so-called "frigate bridge" fitted to Caesar, Caprice, Cambrian and Cassandra.

Sparkie2182 23rd September 2022 13:35

"USS Enterprise:"

Correct.
