If he plants them here he can pretend he got them right as they miss JustWin's homework marking. Cunning.

(Do you need a hair piece to go with that too? I don't know about HLM's speech at the outbreak of World war II but that extract from Minnie Haskins's poem is on the gate to his tomb).

Malcolm G 31st December 2020 13:19

I thought that ES was running his own quiz, but not telling anyone else what the question was so that he would be the only one to get them all right.

Varley 31st December 2020 13:22

Ah. That's a possibility I'd not considered.

Engine Serang 31st December 2020 15:16

JustW, Tony S, Marcus C, Lancs and SaudiS can rack their brains on the subtleties and minutiae of funnels and guy winches but I am a big picture man. I post my correct answers on an alternative site and regard all others guesses as Fake News.
You probably don't know this but I won big over the festive period, no other Serang got 72 million correct answers. So sad.

billyboy 2nd January 2021 02:42

Any news from the Agent Mr Varley?
Seems a long time since we had a job from him. Maybe we need a new agent.

Varley 2nd January 2021 11:22

You'll have to ask my junior. Now I've a cabin with a dayroom it is beneath my dignity (translation for E-S follows) to ply the telegraphers' trade. I don't mind kicking the boy if he slacks off, just leave a note behind the bar, I'm to be found there most dinner times (also breakfast, smokoes, luncheon etc.)

Malcolm G 2nd January 2021 13:42

I am happy to report that the seasonal trip hazards and obstructions have now been struck down and safely stowed for another 11 months. It is now somewhat safer to move about the ship.
Not that anyone in an alcoholic haze would notice, but I thought that I should mention it.

Engine Serang 2nd January 2021 19:59

Adelaide Star 2.

Malcolm G 2nd January 2021 20:04

Nah, reckon its the Tasmanian Star.

Varley 3rd January 2021 11:15

Will whoever removed the fairy lights from the coppery pipe thing running along the radioroom deckhead please return them. They are not a Christmas decoration, the boy can't make the grey box do the di-di-dahs without them.

Are you two doing star sights or jigsaws?

Malcolm G 3rd January 2021 13:46

Ah well, in my defence I have to say that all the pretty lights on the outside of the ship looked fairly permanent, and I don't remember putting them up so I left them alone. Hope that's OK.

Engine Serang 3rd January 2021 14:00

Cannot reconcile Stena funnel with any of current fleet.

billyboy 3rd January 2021 22:15

Tannoy: Attention all crew, we will be sailing for Port Said on tomorrows morning tide where we will anchor off and await confirmation of orders. looks like we will be off down through the Suet Channel for freemantle.
ES, as chief (pro temp) please make sure all is well down below. will need main engines on at 08:30.

Engine Serang 4th January 2021 06:42

08.30 is negotiable. I'm sick and fed up sailing in the middle of the night. The engines will be made available, for your exclusive use, at NOON.

The working class
can kiss my ass,
I've got Tmax's
job at last.

YM-Mundrabilla 4th January 2021 10:37

Is that Tmac's helicopter that I see on the horizon?
Renowned as he is for tact and diplomacy, ES speaks many languages at various times but I don't think that Latin is one of them. Initially, I thought that he didn't realise the meaning of 'pro tem' and that possibly Tmac would need to forcibly explain it to him. To do that, however, he will have to get his big shifter back which ES has had me polish every day. :bye::jester:

Varley 4th January 2021 11:40

You should have used interim. Then you could have shoved his shifter interim.

(Interim= irregular noun, a place where the sun shineth not)

Oh no you haven't yet you young whippersnapper :cloud: I'm not quite dead YET !!! and even if I was I'd make it my personal mission to haunt you

Your out of work
and on the dole
'cause Tmax shoved his shifter
up your ho*e :chuckle:

I will be resting in my funnel suite so if anybody disturbs me they had better have a bloody good reason :paper:

Engine Serang 4th January 2021 15:52

Your out of work
and on the dole

And it feels sideways.

But I knew the thought of anyone sniffing around your job would get you out of Corrs Corner like a hot snot. And was I rite? Worth hobbling about for a week.

Tmac1720 4th January 2021 16:10

Next time you are in Corrs Corner I'll buy you a pint.....honest :pint::pint:

You can even bring David and Sir William :jester:

The rest can stand in the car park with their noses pressed to the window, I'm not feckin' made of money

Engine Serang 5th January 2021 05:37

A generous offer but I doubt if D and Sir W will impress Glengormley society. Stout fellows indeed but their carry on will do little for our campaign to install you as President of the Golf Club and front runner for High Sherriff of Belfast. Solid chaps and sound shipmates but I suggest we drop them off at the Belview Arms, they will feel more comfortable.

billyboy 5th January 2021 06:36

Och awa wi ye min. yous wid be mare at hame in Barlinnie the noo.

Engine Serang 5th January 2021 09:24

Good news shipmates, Big Yin has joined.

Malcolm G 5th January 2021 10:28

Did we need a welder?
That's worrying if it's more than ES can handle.

Yes please Malcolm we do need a welder.

ES has done part of the job - the neat professional patch is his work but the novelty seems to have worn off after that. It has been cold showers for quite a while now.

I don't know who let the water level get so low as I was ashore at the time. There are too many on board who take 45 minute showers. :brain::wink:

YM

Varley 5th January 2021 11:41

Welding! What fun. I'll just get my wookie feet and cowhide pinnie and I'm your man. Pity my team (Fairit Later & Co) is asunder at the moment. Even a bad weld can be a strong weld.

(And don't think I missed the stout fellow jibe! I'll hold you to a Mackeson's on the strength of it).

Varley 5th January 2021 11:46

We may have to subcontract. I'd never be able to blow holes through as neatly as that.

Perfect repair. Get Malcolm to dicky it up with a coat of red lead.

Malcolm G 5th January 2021 15:34

Will do - reminds me of the old days of prepping a car for inspection with a bit of 'tar brush welding'.

My concern regarding a Weegie welder was his entourage - welder's mate, welders rigger, welder's holder-up, preparing grinder, finishing grinder, labourer, sweeper up, etc etc.

Engine Serang 5th January 2021 20:02

You will also have an entourage, Varley.

Engine Serang 8th January 2021 06:31

Is our old shipmate FJ still in the spin dryer?

Unleaded red lead, of course.

Is that like lead-free plumbing?

Last seen wandering up and down the rope walk, seemed to be looking for something or someone.

billyboy 8th January 2021 10:18

quite a few anchored here. lets pick a good spot.......stop engines...let her drift a bit...slow astern both. LET GO PORT ANCHOR!!
FWE.
Here we sit till the agent comes up with something.

Farmer John 8th January 2021 16:05

My mind is elsewhere right now, just wish by bum was, major malfunctions.

Malcolm G 8th January 2021 16:14

Oh dear, I hope you get sorted soon.

Not same at Tmac?

Farmer John 8th January 2021 21:06

It doesn't worry me that much, I am where I am and that can't change, I just seem to spend more time doing other things.

I haven't inspected Tmac's fundament, that is one blessing.

Malcolm G 8th January 2021 22:24

Just take care of yourself, and live up to your strapline

Good decision FJ, but why would you? A more deviant pastime couldn't be imagined. Double PPE advised.

EXCUSE MOI !!!!!! I will have you mangy curs know my stern gland and external discharge orifice is in perfect working order as befits an injuneer of quality like wot I is :brain:

If you must know it is the internal pipework that is fecked however I have the best H&W plumber on tap (geddit??) to effect what running repairs found necessary.

I shall withdraw to my funnel suite however if any of you brave or should that be foolhardy souls choose to bother me you had better have a feckin' good reason :really_mad:
