I have decided to abandon my salvage claim for HMAS Adelaide for three reasons:
  1. It looks terrible.
  2. It is powered by an aircraft engine.
  3. They might give me the ship instead of the money.
As for ES's 'Custodiet ipsos custodes'; Latin was before even my time. I suspect that he may be learning Latin in order to pose as a Priest aboard the GD with the sole purpose of hearing some 'interesting' confessions.

BobClay 3rd February 2022 10:45

I think ES is trying to get a job as a guard for boatman Charon so as to avoid going ashore on the far side of the River Styx.
:shock::chuckle:

YM-Mundrabilla 3rd February 2022 11:28

Less interesting than hearing confessions on the GD.
He does need to remember, however, that either his halo or his dog collar could easily strangle him.

Being a Kiwi I find the British comments about the Australian Navy not very good, don't throw stones as I can give you some comments about your navy from Jebel Ali which would not make good reading. Those in glass houses should not throw stones. I am merchant navy only but have piloted quite a few navy vessels from quite a few nations.

I recommend Whitfield's ointment (good for gyve marks).

There is no use turning on the RN. We have already ripped up the type 45 electrical system (or as its behaviour has been reported)

Engine Serang 5th February 2022 13:29

I'm humiliated, humiliated. Imagine being ticked off by a Kiwi about comments on an Australianship.
Lets move on.

Lads ought I start a thread on HMNZS Charles Upham?

Malcolm G 5th February 2022 13:44

Diversity and equality on here - We tend to be deprecating about everyone equally, one or two members have it down to fine art. So don’t take it personally.

Garry, me oul mucker, please feel free to tell us your story, tales and dits about your experiences in Jebel Ali and other spots East of Suez. Don't hold back because we believe that a Navy, unconstrained by tawdry commercial pressures, should set the standard for the Flag and country it represents.

As a Kiwi we look to you for the inside story on SS Jacinda Ardern, is everything bearing an even strain or has the good ship run out of sea room?

rogd 5th February 2022 20:42

Garry.
For gawds sake don't mention the Isle of Skye and submarines in the same breath.
You'll get grounded!!

garryNorton 5th February 2022 21:26

In reply to #33 Jacinda Ardern does not have drink parties and when she goes to a restaurant does not ask for special treatment, she is normal and speaks the truth do you know someone who does? If you want to throw stones look closer to home.

Varley 6th February 2022 00:00

Upham. They don't like that any more than Jerry.

Engine Serang 6th February 2022 08:17

YM I'm holding you responsible for starting this thread. It has become divisive and encouraged colleagues to throw stones at each other. Varley's ego is as fragile as cut crystal and easily shattered whereas I am a big, thick, ignorant Ulsterman impervious to everything less than a 7.62

Must go, memsahib is shouting that the U F is getting cold.

R58484957 6th February 2022 09:15

BJ is very good at producing children, he should have spent more time running the country.

Dartskipper 6th February 2022 11:44

Good to see that the dreaded thread drift syndrome has finally arrived from "the other side!"

ES, I am surprised, renowned as I am for tact and diplomacy!

'Oh dear, how sad, never mind, too bad!'

'Fined 10/-. Cautioned and warned.'
'An entry has been made on your Record of Service and any repetition will result in more severe disciplinary action.'

Has anyone ever been dismissed from the GD for err 'stirring'? :curtain_call::bye:

Independence for Cornwall !!!

(It just seemed like the right thing to say when you're surrounded by the f*****s.)

Look at the mess he`s made running the country part time. Now imagine how bad it would be if he concentrated and gave it more time.

Engine Serang 6th February 2022 17:01

The Probation Act will suffice.

If you want to know about HMNZS Charles Upham look it up on Google as it is documented there.

BobClay 6th February 2022 22:07

I seem to remember Upham as a character in a movie ... Saving Private Ryan.

He started out as an idealist ... then he totally f***** up ... but came good as a pragmatist in the end.

An allegory ? :egg:

I read in todays ABC News,
"Exhausted naval technicians claim they are battling temperatures of up to 50 degrees Celsius as they work around the clock to repair a power failure that has crippled Australia's largest warship."

This is obviously a major problem, could it be similar to the problem the QM2 had in 2010 when the capacators in a harmonic filter failed?
I'm calling V and his box of fuses back to base and giving the job to Sunderland Forge.

YM-Mundrabilla 7th February 2022 08:16

Sadly they would seem to have two choices;
  1. Work in the 50 degrees C.
  2. Work to prop up the collapsing nursing home industry where the PM has promised defence personnel to assist.

Such work is suitable for riflemen, grunts and jet jocks. Navy are far too busy rooting around for their Spanish dictionary.

Sunderland Forge :cloud: That brings back memories - not many of them good
Didn't they die before harmonic filters were born:curtain_call:
