The structure is a monument to Sir John Barrow near his birthplace at Hoad hill Ulverston. He was 2nd secretary to the Admiralty at the time of Trafalgar. He wrote the definitive account of the mutiny on the Bounty. There are numerous worldwide locations named after him. The coat of arms I do not recognise but the helm is surmounted by a barrow. AB Parker joined the Royal Navy in 1916 at 15.....served through the first and second world wars.....at total of 43 years.
