Yes I recognise that - Graf Spee and it was summer of 1938.

A more 'friendly' visit than the others.

Sparkie2182 27th September 2022 21:00

Quite so.

Graf Spee at Seven Sisters Waterfall....Geirangerfjorden....Norway.

What's the connection?

#578 - I see a ‘Barrow’ in pics 1 and 2,
I cannot find a link to Nelson’s jacket, yet.

Sparkie2182 28th September 2022 08:20

Very well done......

I was about to give the answer.....a very difficult question about a man of great interest to Sparkie.

I'll let you continue your research.....the result will be rewarding.

A Pacific Island and three Hollywood movies come into the picture too.

:)

???? I cannot even begin to understand, can someone explain lease?

So far;
The structure is a monument to Sir John Barrow near his birthplace at Hoad hill Ulverston.
He was 2nd secretary to the Admiralty at the time of Trafalgar.
He wrote the definitive account of the mutiny on the Bounty.
There are numerous worldwide locations named after him.
The coat of arms I do not recognise but the helm is surmounted by a barrow.
Now I’m stuck.

Answer......

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_...w,_1st_Baronet

https://ulverstoncouncil.org.uk/educ...row-1764-1848/

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Barrow_(historian)

Nelsons dress jacket....Barrow was the last man to shake Nelsons hand at Portsmouth before he boarded HMS Victory to sail to Trafalgar.

The Coat of Arms relates to the flag of Pitcairn Island.....the refuge of the Bounty mutineers.

Quite so.

:)

If you had been in the Navy as long as Able Seaman George Parker R.N.......you would probably have known that.

AB Parker joined the Royal Navy in 1916 at 15.....served through the first and second world wars.....at total of 43 years.

A "proper sailor"......
