Of course I'm right. And I'm right because I know a man who helped design and build the Titanic.
He oiled and greased the slide rules every morning and dusted the abacuses with powdered graphite
He also carried out the duties of thr Drawing Office Nipper. He ran messages for the Bowler Hats and went to the shop aka The Shap for filled sodas and News Letters.

When I was a lad I served a term
As office boy to an Shipbuilding firm.
I cleaned the windows and I swept the floor,
And I polished up the handle of the big front door.
I polished up that handle so carefully
That now I am the Ruler of the Merchant Navy!

SPOOKY !!! how in the hell did ES know I went up the Power Station Yard to the Ulster Manure Company for the dipped soda, sausage and egg every morning for the crew. After that I got to run to jacks the bookies with the daily bets. Little wonder I learned natin' aboot injuneering in harland and Bluff. Mind you they were happy days when apprentices knew their place and did NOT interrupt or question the journeyman.:eek:

Sorry lads to have been a tad quiet of late, bit of trouble that needed sorting in the injun room but after a short basin trial we should be fit to go unless the elastic round the driven thingamabob snaps again then we are all in the brown stuff as since sister Eleff departed we have had a chronic shortage of knicker elastic.

Sir Joseph Porter in HMS Pinafore the original. If you can find the video of Frankie Howard as Sir Joseph worth a look.

Stewards!. Lay up for a party on the pool deck.see to it theres a cake in the shape of a large shifter.
Its Tmac's Birthday.
could be a great evening up there, no rain, not too warm, and cold Guinness on tap. a case of Black Bush for the Auld hand from me if you please.

Engine Serang 22nd July 2020 09:06

The Royal Navy are aghast at the thought of Francis Alick Howard becoming First Lord but grateful he can't become First Sea Lord.
More suited to the Greek Navy.

Eyes in the boat, ES.

Just because it's his birthday doesn't mean he shifted her, I believe she is rather choosy, and this speaks well of her. A classy tart.
I don't know what age he is but the heat off the candles set the sprinklers off and flooded the Smoke Room. We have a 15 degree list but the Black Bush has caused us to dismiss it, a North Antrim phenomena.

For T's a jolly good fellow, For T's a jolly good fellow and so say all of us.

Varley 22nd July 2020 11:00

And so say all of us.......

Why can't I stand up?

Well, bolt mi'busbars! There's red stuff spilling from the port port tank ullaging port we obviously need some starboard starboarding of some sort. Look at the waste, the waste.

Engine Serang 22nd July 2020 12:19

3/E change the Fonseca suction to the Port Tk. Jaldi. Rapidamente, como um bom homem.
A good lunchtime session will bring us upright or even give us a slight Stbd list. Problema resolvido.

Varley 22nd July 2020 12:52

Good man. Unporting port on the port tank would be equally good providing we can keep up the consumption.

(Two-oh, old man, is there a flag missing from the locker? I was looking for the spare IoM and it seems to be missing).

Engine Serang 22nd July 2020 16:01

Missing indeed.
Perhaps someone ate it.

Varley 23rd July 2020 11:29

I hope it's not getting all smutty. I have never seen such a heavily black economic haze around the halyards. Can't see the radars for soot, almost feel guilty about sending the boy up there. Mimco won't want him in the saloon looking like a pickaninny.

Tmac1720 23rd July 2020 17:10

Thanks for the birthday wishes mates, sorry I missed the party in the salon but these things happen. Anyhoo I managed to staunch the oil leak with a bit of cloth I found beside the fog locker. Funny thing it was, Red with some sort of wheel made of legs on it.

Varley 23rd July 2020 17:53

Just because I have white cushion covers with two broad red stripes does not mean that you should jump to conclusions. A plastico ran them up for me from material that the boy scavenged from somewhere. From the smell I assumed he'd found them in the potato locker.

Tmac1720 23rd July 2020 18:20

Seat covers is it !!!!! :(:( Us poor injuneers don't have seats or the chance to park our arses on one even if we had, seat covers indeed......bah humbug :really_mad::really_mad:

Engine Serang 23rd July 2020 22:03

One wonders if said cushion's c/w fancy covers are on his sofa or settee?

Varley 23rd July 2020 23:30

One needs a hobby when making sure the boy can do his dits and dahs. I like upholstery. Don't tell me you don't do gov'mnt jobs as well. I've seen the little model locomotive you hide in the switchboard cubicle when you aren't wasting the company's time (and silver solder) on it. Wait until I rack the breaker back-in then we'll see who does the sticky sweeties.

Obviously a 'flag of convenience' ......

billyboy 24th July 2020 09:16

Wheels made of legs eh ....Hmmmm. Now if we had some of those fitted we could get around at low tide.we could walk her up the beach instead of anchoring off. Just a thought...I'll get me coat.

Varley 24th July 2020 10:56

That propulsor is the intellectual property of the Ministry of Manx Maritime Motivation. But, for a small fee, I am sure a licence can be arranged.

(Some of us take a dim view of ignoring flag etiquette. By the state of some that you see worn around, fit only for signalling distress or surrender, that is not a universal consideration!)

They adorn both my day-bed afloat and several chaises longues at 'The Towers' (but are only 'out' if no ladies hailing from EOH are visiting, toujours la politesse!).

Indeed and correct YM. I've re-registered the Memsahib and myself in the IOM. Not a thing one does easily but my MNOPF pension is now so big that the family accountant advised me to find a dodgy bank to hide it in. And where better than crooked Mona, a Spiv on every street corner, similar to Threadneedle Street but a wee bit seedier.
A grubby decision indeed but vwhat can a retired, fixed income family do to keep their head above water.

Varley 26th July 2020 12:44

If you intend to stay in EOH and stash your plumbgotten gains here then that is something that would suggest you are both sailing closer to the wind than honest punter and may well see you canvas carried away. If you were to up sticks and bring them with you then you would find a tax regime as well enforced as your own with respect to its collection but one more circumspect when it comes to disposal. Or you would have done pre CV19.

Engine Serang 29th July 2020 12:04

Honest Punter?
In Mona?
I rather think not.
