#160 - mustn’t be greedy, I’ll leave it for someone else.
Suffice to say that the magnificent Cathedral, highly visible from the port, is well worth a visit.

Sparkie2182 13th September 2022 23:36

Fair enough.

In that case I would guess that Sparkie took the photos himself when he visited the Kure Maritime Museum, aka Yamato museum.

#180 - sorry to be a PITA but that picture was taken on 10th October 1955.
It was the occasion of a goodwill visit by six Russian (Soviet) warships to Portsmouth. A deputation went to London and laid a wreath at the cenotaph, they then went to Dartmouth where 100 Russian cadets were taking part in an exchange.
The picture shows Admiral Golovko with Admiral Sir George Creasy on HMS Victory.

As a result of certain observations made by the Royal Navy on this visit they took the opportunity to ‘have a look’ below the waterline when Bulganin and Khrushchev visited the following spring.
The rest is history.

A couple of Ticonderoga class cruisers, one maybe the USS Thomas S Gates.
So I would say that this is Philadelphia Navy yard.
