Deck Apprentice (School of Maritime Studies Plymouth) and 3rd Mate with Cunard 1977-82, serving on Moss Tankers, Port Line, ACT, ACL, Brocklebank, passenger and reefer ships. Maersk UK 82-87 on bulk carriers and tankers in North Sea and Ascension Island. Aggregate dredging 1982-2006 with British Dredging, RMC and Cemex UK. Marine Pilot in SE and SW Wales 2006 until retiring a couple of months ago. Looking-for-old-shipmates and getting involved in any discussions I feel qualified to give my opinion.

Good start Julian. There are far too many people posting the first thing that comes into their heads. I myself always carries out a wee bit of research on a subject before approaching the keyboard and therefore I post meaningful and erudite opinions. I believe your posts will be akin to a Daily Telegraph editorial and I await your efforts with anticipation.

Hi Julian N: Welcome to you - I am a Swansea Jack and spent many an hour on the old Pilot Boat out of Swansea whilst on leave (holiday) from HMS Conway curtesy Captain Clement whilst he was Senior Swansea Pilot. Good Days.

Hi spotter185, thanks for the welcome. I won't hold being a jack against you (I'm from Cardiff!) You are probably remembering the pilot vessel Seamark, (yellow hull).She was finished by the time I started as a pilot in Swansea but believe she is in the old dock next to the Maritime museum

Yes it was the Seamark I went into the bay on - your right that it was moored next to the Maritime Museum - looking very ill kept - rusty and not much paint on the upper works. However I believe that it was moved to Cardiff Bay some years ago - could be rotting there now. Pity, it was a good sea boat. Not been to Cardiff since the virus struck - after my sea days spent 10 years working at the Western Mail in their Marketing & Promotions Dept. Building now gone - replaced by the new BBC TV HQ I think.
