"The UK fishing industry is challenging candidates in the General Election to pledge their support for its priority of restoring control of UK waters. Fishermen’s leaders insist that exiting the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) is the only way of ending the farcical situation under which the country is forced to give away almost two-thirds of the fish from some of the richest fishing grounds in the world.
Candidates in all 650 parliamentary constituencies will be invited to sign the pledge prior to the election on June 8th.
Bertie Armstrong, chief executive of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation, said: “The whole industry, from those who go to sea through the processors to the hauliers, is united behind one simple aim – our coming out of the EU and the CFP.
“Brexit offers us a huge opportunity to re-assert control of our waters and to establish once and for all a sensible, practicable new fisheries management regime."

The CFP is a big problem for the SNP who have been told that they must sign up fully to the CFP if Scotland breaks away and wants to stay in Europe. There are SNP delegates in the Fishing Constituencies who are not happy.

Seems simple to me, our waters thus our fish thus fished by our boats with our crews and landed at our ports.

Our Fisheries and Agriculture department fouled things up when they laid down rules about decommissioning fishing vessels to "reduce the pressure on fish stocks." British registered vessels that decommissioned, sold their licences to Spanish, French and other European registered vessels, and these vessels then sailed with a British Skipper and continued to fish the same waters.

Well done to the Dept of Ag and Fish. Not.

It would appear that things are looking up for Fisherman especially those who will Fish for Plaice Post Brexit as Parkol the Whitby Boat Builders are being inundated with orders for new vessels to the point that they are sub contracting some of the Hull building to a Company on the Tees.
Great news for Fishermen and those who build their vessels for them, although I think the profile of the modern fishing vessel Hull is to say the least quirky:huh:

A lot of rather naive fishermen are going to get a serious shock when they realise the Common Fisheries Policy is here to stay, all for good practical reasons.
Not forgetting that the Tories have been asked a number of times recently if they'll give a guarantee that they won't offer concessions to the EU with regard to fishing policy as part of the Brexit negotiations - they consistently refuse to comment either way.
