The song is very touching and was written by the guy singing the song. He comes from nearby in the town of Orillia. The speculation was the boat bottomed out on Superior shoal which has a charted depth of 26 feet but with the high waves and the position only just clearing the downbound shipping route, slightly off would have taken her over it. The boat not too far behind was the one to raise the alarm when they noticed her lights disappear.
