'eln 'n safety - When working in a hole below head height there should be two men standing by for each man working below, not including the machine driver - Ah, there's not a machine, that's alright then....

When our well was drilled a truck with a derrick at the back drilled down and casing was fitted as it got lower. Reached the aquifer at 146 feet and the casing was sealed with bentonite.
A pump was lowered with the piping to the house away below the frost level to a pressurised holding tank. The quality of the water is such that a well known company wished to build a bottling plant and tap into this aquifer. They were turned down much to the pleasure of the local residents who are all receiving water from this aquifer. I was told by some knowledgable specalist the water we so freely use is over 100 years old but how they find this out I do not know. |
I always thought that all the water on the planet is as old as the planet. It must have been drunk many times before we do.

100 years in the aquifer? My wife would refuse to drink it because she would say it was stale and not fresh.

There's even on theory that Earth's water came from impacting comets in the early days of the Solar System. So the water could be billions of years old !!!
