MN War records (fatalities)

I am trying to research a distant relative who, I believe, perished in service during WWII. His name is Thomas Bedford. Are there any records other than hunting through the actual Tower Hill memorial?

Hi Robert and welcome,
Can you give his full name, date and place of birth please? If he died in service then he should be commemorated by the CWGC. I note for WW2 there are only 5 Bedfords named for the Merchant Navy, none with the first name Thomas. If he died from non war related injury or sickness he won't be named on the Memoral but should be named in the Deaths at Sea Register. I have a copy for WW2 but it is ship based not surname based so I need some other id to find him.
Also be aware of family lore, I have researched many seamen believed lost at sea during WW2 only to find out that that was not the case.

Regards

Hugh

Hi Robert.
If you have the name of any ships he was on I could look them up in a book I have of all British ships sunk in the second world war, then if there, look up on the U-boat net to see if they have his name on their web
