Hull Nautical Colleges
 

I attended Boulevard College from 1964 for a years pre-sea course, and remember my time there with pleasure but imperfectly. I will post more later, but would like to hear from any others.

The thing that has always baffled me a bit is the number and level of Nautical Colleges at Hull. When I was there, Boulevard and Trinity House were both providing pre-sea, There was also a Trawler training school, who used to come and beat us up. When did this simple state of affairs change, or have I got it completely wrong anyway? I know loads of people trained for their tickets there and Boulevard disappeared. Anyone got any light to throw on these changes?

I'm curious to know how many Nautical Colleges there are left nationwide ?

Both Hull Trinity House and BNS had Cadet and Adult Depts. In the Mid 70s the new place was built on George Street. It was built on the site of the Railway control rooms during the war. All the bomb proofing did cause problems during building. The Adult school moved to the " Breeze Block " and all pre sea was at Hull Trinity House site on Princess Dock Side.

As an Engineer Apprentice spent time in College of Technology Queens Gardens in 1970 and 1971.
when I came back in 1976 to do Seconds all had combined with the Nautical School and moved into George Street. There was a club, RUF 15, across the road which had a stripper of a Friday lunch. Tough times in Hull.

Hull always has hard times, I think it's Feng Shui is wrong. When you are there, it's not bad, but when you are about 25 miles away there always seems to be somewhere better to be.

I enjoyed my time there and have happy memories, going there when all my mates went on to sixth form seemed quite a step up.

Feng Shui was a Chinkee on Hessle Road.
