Trying to identify sailing ship

3 Attachment(s)
Hello there I am researching my family history on my fathers side. His grandfather migrated to Australia from the UK in the late 1800's. From what I understand he was a seaman ( I can't find him on any passenger or ships crew lists) I have my Great Grandfathers sea chest and inside the lid of the sea chest is a hand painting of a sailing ship ( I assume it would be the vessel he sailed on ) I cannot locate a name on the vessel - there is a flag flying but hard to identify ( for me anyway) I am wondering if this site can possibly help or advise on this. I have attached photos of the sea chest if there is an interest. Thank you. David

Clipper

You have a treasure. Looks to be a workman-like painting of a mid 19thC clipper with a great load of canvas. The ensign, though a touch hurried, most resembles the British red ensign. Best wishes for your researches.
Harry
