Dolius 1956
 

HI there,
I am looking for some help with the Blue Funnel Ship Dolius, if anyone might oblige or perhaps point me in the right direction please? My Dad (Ian Jones) was an Engineer cadet on his second voyage but Dolius first (H&W to Liverpool) and then on her maiden deep sea voyage Jan of 1956 to April of 1956 and I can find nothing on ports or cargo on the trip, I'd love to have some help or advice if anyone could chip in?

I have been meaning to call my Dad, now a good excuse! Dolius was his favourite ship. He was meant to be married on his birthday, 14/03/58 but she was delayed and the marriage put back till 21/03.

She was a typical Far East Bluey, UK/Euro ports, Suez, Aden for bunkers, Ceylon, Swettenham/Penang etc., Singapore, Djakarta et al, Japan.

As an aside, I found my Dad's name/signature in a registery in the Penang Bar, Penang. It was January '58. I had worked out that that was a probable date given the story of the delay. Unfortunately, in those days, no one had a cellular camera to hand (1981).

1984: Transferred to the managers' Shanghai Branch, and renamed ZHAN DOU 51.
11.1991: Lloyd’s Register deleted the entry due to her continued existence being in doubt.

Dave, thanks for responding, I hope your dad might have something to share, I am trying to find the ports/cargoes for the Maiden voyage after her sail from H&W. I have some H&W photos inbound from their archives which might be of interest too. I will also try to take a look in the Archive at Liverpool but getting there is an issue as they only open it weekdays and I still work, it would be lovely to hear what your dad might have to say! Bill, really appreciate your response, thank you, I love photos of the Blue Funnel ships it reminds me of visits I used to make when they were docked in Liverpool and dad would get us down in the engine rooms, no surprise I ended up a mechanic..... Thanks & Best Regards
