NEARLY caught out!

I was contacted by an 'Eastern' chap who said my computer had been cloned and £1300.00 had been taken from my Account.

I asked where he was calling from and he said, "California".
Strangely there was no 'lag' when he answered my questions which started my doubts.

The HSBC web-site came-up and it was when he asked for my Bank Sort Code etc. that I realised I was being scammed!

So I advised him, "Multiply and go forth".

I contacted the HSBC "Fraud Department" and told them what had happened. They told me all was well.

A VERY close call.:brain: Phil

HSBC like HMRC and all banks only contact you via the set-up contact details. Letter, phone, email. HMRC only letter.

Its a never ending stream of try ons. So easy to be a bit dim one day and they got you.

To date managed to avoid it but so tiring the constant stream of it.

Or -" Go away in jerky movements " also does the trick .

Rest assured, Phill, HSBC are very good in this respect - It is normally them, via a very specific question, who advise you of unauthorized activity! Two events come to mind. When I was in Madrid, I went to the cashpoint. It would not give me money. Just then, I got a call from HSBC asking if I was accessing the cashpoint in Madrid (Doctor Fleming St.),"Yes" said I. turns out that there was an attempt to take money out of my account somewhere else! Another time, I got a call asking where I was,"Mexico City" said I. "Aha!" said the Fraud man, "you can't be in Tijuana then at the same time!"

Best Regards,
Dave
