Georgian era merchant navy
Hi everyone. This is just a short post to introduce myself. I am researching a Georgian era ship's captain, who served first in the Royal Navy in the Napoleonic Wars, and who then bought and captained two merchant brigs, trading between Liverpool and the Mediterranean, mostly Leghorn. I have found lots of information about his Royal Navy years, the ships, battles etc, but harder to find info on merchant trading in that era.
Thanks, Simon |
Simon,
Welcome to SH. I cannot help you but maybe some of the other members can. Do you have any ship names for his MN service. That may help. Neville |
Greetings Simon and welcome to SH. Bon voyage.

Hello R58484957, and thank you for the welcome! The captain I am interested in was Lieutenant John Monk RN, and after his active service ended, he first captained the William Black from 1824-1829, before selling it and buying a Maryport-built brig called The Monk, which his first mate wrecked it in 1837. I am going to post a separate question in an appropriate forum thread as I have the shipbuilder's accounts for the ship, and I'm trying to decipher them.
