How things Change
 

Some may remember BBC Interludes from back in the 50's in order to fill up TV airtime. One from 1953 was a speeded up rail journey from London to Brighton in four minutes.

They did it again in 1983 and then again in 2013. Thirty years between films, cover 60 years in all. They've put the films side by side and done a good of syncing them up … quite spectacular to see the changes … and the none changes:

The Talking Pictures TV Channel are repeating some of those interludes now. It's quite good fun seeing how great things really were in those days, compared to how wonderful our memories make them seem.:jester:

Also known as Trade Test Transmissions. One that springs to mind was the Aussie road train. We used to watch them at lunch time at home and then leg it to school before the bell.

What a fascinating comparison...Good old Beeb!
What it does show to me is the handiwork of Beeching - far more rails apparent in '53!

Sometimes, when you're feeling a bit knackered, and it's getting a bit much, my advice would be to watch this … and think positively for a while. :eek: :sweat:

Jeez, Bob! My seat cushion looks like mount Vesuvius from all the "puckering"!! Still, I did manage to watch it all. (I DO NOT like heights.)

Thanks for that Bob, I never climbed ashore but did many times on ships masts and loved it, you had to be casual about it.

The chimney is the India Mills chimney at Darwen Lancs.

It is still there and is a listed building.

You look at a chimney like that, it must be better to maintain it, lowering down 5 ton stones can't be easy. They would make a dent when they fell.

Thanks for that info. I managed to find it on Google Earth. In fact on street view you can get right up alongside it by entering the India Mill Business Centre !!! (whatever that may be.)

That's a very serious chimney. You'd need a bloody big brush to sweep it … :sweat:
