Hello

Hi to all shipping enthusiasts out there. I am an Aussie who has lived in NZ for the past 10 years. I joined the Shipping Industry in a clerical role in December 1966. I served in many capacities in ports around Australia and finally left the industry in July 1981 and settled in Western Australia.

I am not sure we should not offer our new member some counselling. After years in the shipping industry he chooses to settle in the province where the godforsaken port of Dampier clings to the commonwealth record for unfleshpot of the century.

Having just Googles it (I had had my live memories of the place surgically removed) I note string of 'Intercourse Islands' immediately to the northwest. I can only guess my opinion of the area is one shared more widely.

Good to hear from you Ross. You had the right idea - sticking to the clerical stuff. Some of us weren't so bright and actually sailed on them, designed them. built them and tried to manage them - each time thinking "This is it" Sixty years on methinks you got it right:applause:

Welcome on board Ross. No need to apologise about being Australian. It's something that affected my Father and Grandfather too, but we kept it quiet! (I was born in Essex, UK. It's a long story, about 26,000 miles to be approximate.)

Roy.
