Funnel room
Came across this question :-
On board the cruise liner Disney Wish there is a large suite located inside of one of the funnels. Does anyone know, if there were other ships with cabins or passenger / crew rooms located inside funnels . Did hear of something like that before . just wondering . Tony |

How about a ferry.
The 'Funnel' is a passenger lounge! With the diesel exhausts on the sides, as fairly normal. I knew it by the name Thjelvar when she did Sealink a favour one year. |
Hi . Malcolm G
Thanks for your imput and info Tony |
Most Royal Caribbean ships have a Lounge-Bar-Nightclub built into the funnel but on a scale that was never less than impressive. Far removed from the Block of Flats concept that horrifies some of my old Fuddy-Duddy shipmates.

Moore-McCormack Lines Argentina & Brasil had some sort of leisure facilities in the funnel as they were dummies, & the twin uptakes further aft served as funnels.

SN has a thread currently running on this subject OG. You must have missed it.

Also, You will find this one on that site; https://www.shipsnostalgia.com/media/mv-thjelvar.41642/ |
Two sites struggling with audience in quiet decline.
Handbags over family photo album, apparently. Allegedly. Instead of oil and water we have developer and fixer. Jesus wept. |

Apologies if I poked your sensibilities ES.
I was just trying to assist our new Cornish mate as best I can. But then my life is one long list of poor decisions, based on crap ideas, carried out badly. |
Hold on Malcolm, you're reading far too much into my comment. It was a reflection upon the fact that a few hundred salty dogs need two similar web sites to parade our knowledge of all things nautical.
One long list of poor decisions, based on crap ideas, carried out badly, could be applied to me and certainly to our friend in the Listed Building on the islet. |
Yep OK - you have good point, apart from hundreds being a bit optimistic on an average day.
But, back to Royal Caribbean - The older ships had the lounge facing aft but the later 'signature lounge' wraps around the funnel facing forward. On the Explorer of the Seas, when we were bumping along in a Force 10/11, it was a great place to sit and watch the deck chairs flying past. The chapel was one deck up.... |
How dare E-S claim that crown for himself. My ideas are at least as crap as his and I am something of an expert in the subject.

I'm not. I'm agreeing with The Lands Madman that we're only human except for the blue blooded members sipping their Port Wine.
|
I’m off to cut a door sized hole in this funnel, there must be lots of room in there in which to hide.
I mean, what else are you going to use it for? |

Well, on Conoco Europe a 'broom cupboard' locker set into the funnel casing had been turned into a sauna by dint of tapping off the whistle line.
If port wine sends you blue I should switch to something else. When I go blue it is because I cannot keep the pile heated |
