Missing member SJB aka Stein.

Svein has not been on site since 31/10/2023.
Unfortunately he no longer contributes because he is suffering from Parkinson's disease which has severely limited his abilities.
(Info was posted by member John Jarman of SN).

Very sad news indeed, he was a great poster who also knew a lot about sailing ships.
I wish him well.

I've missed his informative posts.

With JJ’s permission this is his post from SN:

Sorry to go off thread. "A touch of Parkinson's" mentioned, made me think of one of our long-standing members not now posting. Stein, from Norway. Real name Svein Jan Bentsen, is ex.MN and an artist and graphic designer but has been forced to stop posting some time ago because of Parkinson's Disease.
He used to post on all subjects with impeccable English grammar and he and I became SN friends. About a year or so after Svein contracted Parkinson's, in Autumn 2019, my wife and I went to visit him and spent a great week being shown around his local area and Oslo. He lives alone but, in spite of his illness at that time, was managing quite well. His house was full of his paintings, not just ships but landscapes and more. His studio had many models he had built. His long-standing love was of Tall Ships and his knowledge of that subject is second-to-none. We were to have him visit us the following Spring but Covid spoiled that. We continued to email each other every week or so but as the disease worsens, and you have to hear about it first hand to believe how awful it's grip is, Svein's emailing has now got much more difficult for him. The last contact I had from him was when he phoned us just before Christmas. His voice was very weak and I couldn't hardly hear him but Mrs JJ managed better. She has fantastic hearing I've found out to my cost over many years!
I could write much more about Svein and his artistic abilities but I kept this as brief as possible.

Thanks, Malcolm. I too exchanged messages with him occasionally and I knew that he was in poor health.

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of contributors that have past through both S.H and S.N with such interesting back grounds and a in-depth knowledge of shipping, Svien is a typical example. Sad that we have lost so many over the years, but as they say that life.

Yes, I agree with above comments, SJB, you were a valued member of the site, with your detailed knowledge of sailing ships in particular.

All Best Wishes

With Kind Regards
