Hi Dave,
Dad's previous ship was Narkunda, bombed and sunk off Bougie during Operation Torch. Narkunda had landed troops for the invasion of North Africa. So he was also DAS for that episode too.
Despite all that, and sailing in many convoys across the North Atlantic with cargoes of aviation spirit (at 100 Octane), he never, ever, did learn to swim!
