It's a paddle wheel from a European paddle steamer which manages to alter the angle of attack of the blades by all those rods, leavers, agricultural bearings and other thingys.
I found the puzzle difficult because so many bits looked the same in isolation. I also found it impossible to imagine in slow motion how it all worked even at the 44 rpm (IIRC) that I counted the engine revs at.
Hope that you found it equally difficult although I see that Tmac seems to have mastered it.
If you solved it in less than five minutes at 100 pieces I will shout you a small jar of vegemite (perhaps that is) ........
