Hello!

My name is Peter Kohler, and whilst a new member, have long enjoyed and culled this site out of my lifelong passion... merchant ships, in particular passengers liners of the "classic" era i.e. 1880s-1960s, and researching and writing about them.

I am the author of several books, including The Lido Fleet: Italian Line Passenger Ships & Services (1990), Sea Safari: British India S.N. African Ships & Services (1993) and Holland America Line, a Postcard History, as well as a past contributor to "Ships Monthly", "Sea Breezes" and "Steamboat Bill", the journal of the Steamship Historical Society.

My current ongoing research and writing focus is my own blog "Wanted On Voyage" with comprehensive design and operational histories of oft neglected ships including MUNARGO, MUNAMAR, CARABOBO, LETITIA/ATHENTIA, FRANCONIA/LACONIA, ALSATIAN/CALGARIAN, SCYTHIA, MISSANABIE/METAGAMA, HELIOPOLIS/CAIRO, ROYAL GEORGE/ROYAL EDWARD, MARIPOSA/MONTEREY, SIERRA/VENTURA/SONOMA, PORT KINGSTON and just completed, EMPRESS OF JAPAN.

I have voyaged or cruised in, oh it must be, about 30 different ships since 1974 and served for one round voyage as a Jr. Asst Purser in RMS ST HELENA (the original and one and only!) in 1990 and now retired from a 42-year career in the travel industry.

I look forward to contributing to this site and sharing our mutual passion for ships, the sea and sea travel.
