I remember a wire sounding system with big lead weights on the Olivebank but never saw it used.We did have,and used, a Walker log on ocean passages though.One ship even had a working repeater on the bridge.Then there was the Decca navigator which arrived in several large boxes for coasting,but never really worked for some reason.Not in fog anyway.
