Care Ashore homes and sexism
The charity Care Ashore is supposed to cater for seafarers. That's what their site states. It doesn't stipulate male seafarers. However It appears to mean that. So they can then stipulate vacancies for men. They are not interested in application from woman ex seafarers.
Good to know that sexism is still rife and it is a woman there who is displaying sexism. She obviously doesn't understand diversity issues. While ex male seafarers are well catered for and wives, the female ex seafarers who did the same job as the men (not the same jobs as the wives who wore their imaginary stripes on their handbags) paid union fees (and the union donates to these charities) are not well catered for. What is worse, it is often a female who has never had seagoing work exleruence who is exhibiting the prejudice. Last edited by Lucy Knight; 10th January 2018 at 04:46. |

What are your chances of success if you make an official complaint?

I wouldn"t hold my breath. I will make a complaint though, (that is as well as requests for statistics under Freedom of Info) to the Charities Commission. I have also just been bending the ear of a male who works in the communications
Dept at MN Union Nautillus Int. That's the dept that writes the monthy union newspaper The Telegraph. Communication is the name of the game. Last edited by Lucy Knight; 10th January 2018 at 17:06. |
