Our cat had to be put down recently for an incurable kidney ailment and it was a surprisingly emotional few days.

Yes, putting down a sick pet is an emotional time.
We lost our 17 year old dog, Tigger, a few years ago when she got sick.
On the way home to bury Tigger I said to the YMs at the time 'that I hope that someone will do the same for me one day should the need arise'.
