Were some Jaguars badge engineered? If so, they didn't have a great reputation here in Oz.

Yes Geoff,
Jaguar took over Daimler and almost straight off dropped the Daimler engine then just used the name.
Basically this is an XJ6 with a different grill and slightly different trim.

Only car that i owned that had the metal moth
was a Ford Cortina Estate MK1 , the one with the
plastic wood panel down the sides .
Main problem regards rust was the front suspension struts

From then stayed away from Fords .

This is a Series I model. The Jaguar model was the XJ6 and later the XJ12, 5.3 Litres. The Series II version had a "refreshed" front end with a higher bumper. As a division of British Leyland quality control was an issue and they had a deserved reputation for serious rust problems, poorly fitted body panels and doors, sub standard interior trim and so on. However, the ones in existence today and mostly owned by enthusiasts who belong to either of the two major clubs that cater for Jaguar and Daimler models, are well cared for and reliable. The Series III were refreshed with an altered roof line and more heavily raked windscreen and are fine automobiles. I owned a Series III Jaguar Sovereign (1984 model, built when Jaguar Cars dropped the Daimler brand in the mid 1980's) for nearly 30 years. Someone else is enjoying it now!

My wife's aunt lent me her XJ6, I think 84 model, in Thousand Oaks, to go into LA centre. That was an impessive car! It was the last laquered paint job model.
