#8207 HMS Royal Oak, as Saudi Sid says, the stripes on the turret are to identify neutral warships during the Spanish Civil War.

There is a bit of a quandary with this one. What class would you say the one in the puzzles image is ?

I found a picture of HMS Royal Oak, from 1938 with the stripes on in my copy of Lenton & Colledge ‘Warships of Ww2’.
She was Royal Sovereign Class. The other possibility is the 2000 ton heavier Queen Elizabeth Class, my unpractised eye, can see no difference.
Indeed, there is a photo of HMS Barham also with the stripes.
If you believe it is not the Royal Oak, I would not argue.
Stay Safe, Nick

#8207 is a colourised photo of HMS BARHAM entering Grand Harbour, Valletta. She was the only Queen Elizabeth class ship to be fitted with a tripod mainmast. ROYAL OAK was a Royal Sovereign class ship, visual differences from Queen Elizabeths included a smaller funnel, different bridge etc.

Thanks for that. I came across the other image that gave the name as HMS Royal Oak. When I created the puzzle I had HMS Barham beneath the image. So HMS Barham it is.
