Wedding telegram

My seafaring friend was getting married. I had been invited to the wedding but I had rejoined my ship before the happy day. As I knew the date and the hotel where the reception was being held, I decided to send the bride and groom a telegram.
I spoke to the radio officer who told me that he had the very wording for a telegram for a seafarer getting married.
That evening, the radio officer, told me that the Portishead radio station would not foreword the telegram as it was obscene!

He was very apologetic as he had used this wording for years. A very bland telegram was sent to the couple but I must admit I preferred the wording of the original telegram "Indicate position and depth at midnight.

I sent a telegram to a friend with more or less the same message.
I got away with it, much to the embarrassment of the maiden aunts at the reception!

These were relatively common at GKA, received quite a few over the years. Some were sent as SLTs and latterly RTLs/GTLs (Radio/Greetings Telex Letters). We had the usual 'double entendres' but my favourite was the 'Please send photographs of the happy couple. Mounted if possible.'

I can't recall rejecting any of them myself but there were some older R/Os at GKA who might have taken offence.

I never had reason to refuse any wedding or other messages with hidden meaning!
As Larry says we did have an older element who may have done so. However with the exception of a few with strict religious beliefs I cannot imagine any not seeing the amusing side.
