Yes,Submarines have a towing pennant that runs from the bow,spot welded along the starboard side,up the side of the fin and secured with a thimble eye on the side of the bridge.Below decks between the torpedo tubes is a release unit.The towing vessel would endeavour to get a gun line across to the bridge followed by a grass rope,then usually a wire rope which would be secured to the towing pennant and the it would pull the towing pennant out of its secured position.Nuclear submarines will have something similar.But they are after my time.Never seen on used.
