Greetings

Ex FAA.( WAFU ). Began service as an REMA on 771 SQDN working on WX1 Frontline SAR. Had a wonderful time at Portland. Took the opportunity of a recruiting drive to
retrain and become a MET OBSERVER, serving both at sea and RNASs. Having retrained and not an original Met Observer, I was classed as a Retread as were many others. A sort of pecking order culture! Anyway it was a brilliant branch to be part of in many ways at a time when the Pusser had size, strength and projection.

It's just dawned on me, "R8*****", that R58484957 has two extra digits; why? I think we should be told.

Many thanks Gents for your welcomes. Besides spending my early years at a South coast town my first real interest and addiction for the sea began when Mum and I sailed on one of the Lavender liners, to join my father in Kenya in the mid 50s. That was the period when ships were the primary form of long distance transport. A time when ships looked as they should. Graceful and not floating tubs. It was a childhood adventure of extremes. A gale in the the Biscay, to the searing heat of the Red Sea, spiced with the novelties of foreign ports. No longer can one readily experience buying curios from Bum boats, whilst at anchor.
It was whilst in Kenya I developed the life long zeal for sailing, assisted by an African fisherman, kind and willing to take me with him in his outrigger to the offshore reef. Other than that I was left to figure out the art of sailing in a Heron dinghy. That more or less covers my early salty years.

When I first saw the number I realised that it was a paired sequence - like they use in IQ tests.
And I am 'unitiated' so to speak.

Old Stocks, I thought the pair of youse were retired R.O.'s, living on a pitiful Marconi pension c/w pipe, cardigan and comfy slippers when all along youse were a pair of Spooks inhabiting the shady world of espionage. My admiration for youse knows no bounds and I have a little token for you both, a book, " Bletchley Park Brainteasers: The biggest selling quiz book of 2017". I hope you enjoy it.

Paired sequence indeed.

Now TigerMet please ignore all the above and welcome to SH.
